HEART BEAT!

Today I had my first Dr. appointment. I was nervous but very excited at the same time. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect but thought that after my first appointment it would all feel more real. We decided that although we knew it probably wasn't going to be a very exciting appointment (physical, info giving and getting, blood work...) that Kevin would come and stay in the waiting area just in case they decided to try to hear the baby's heart beat or needed questions answered by him. I had to switch to a different doctor in the same practice as my PCP because she does not do OB. I was a bit disappointed since I really like my PCP and have been going to her since we moved down to Indy, but I really liked the new doctor and the baby will be able to have my PCP for his/her doctor.

Most of the visit consisted of gathering family and person history, talking about nutrition...etc. She told me that I am 10 weeks and gave us a due date of August 25!!!! She told me that we would try to hear the heart beat but told me not to be disappointed if we didn't because it could take a few more weeks for it to really be heard. I was super excited that she was even going to try and told her that if we heard it that she would need to go and get Kevin from the waiting room so he could hear it too. It did not take her long to find the heart beat...what an awesome sound! She said that it sounded like a good strong heart beat and quickly went to get Kevin for him to join in the excitement. HOW AWESOME!!!! I still can't believe it and I will not forget that wonderful overwhelming feeling of hearing our baby's heart beat and realizing that this is for real. There is a little me and Kevin growing in me!

My doctor provided me with a little goody bag with lots of information about exercise, over the counter drugs that are safe, and different classes offered at St. Vincent Women's Hospital (where we will deliver).

It is all so exciting and I am already looking forward to my next appointment in a month! I will be sure to continue to keep you all updated.

Blessings!

  3. Congrats again you too!!! You know how excited we are for you both! I remember hearing Luke's heartbeat for the first time. I wished I coukd hear it whenever I wanted and even considered buying a doppler so Greg and I could listen to the heart beat at home. We didn't buy the doppler but one of the perks of being a nurse was that I had easy access to one at work and I frequently spent my breaks in the nurse's lounge just listening. I thought it was the most beautiful sound I had ever heard!

I love the videos you guys took of telling friends and family! They are each so typical of who you were telling, I love it! Such a great idea. I don't know if we ever told you this story, but we found out about our pregnancy a few days before we went on a weekend trip and I managed to keep it secret until we dropped by my parent's house on our way out. The whole way there I was debating telling them or not, finally deciding that I didn't want to wait. Then when we got there my parents were obviously in a rush to leave and kept talking trying to get us out the door so they could leave too! Finally I interupted my mom and said, "Just wait a minute! We have something to tell you"! We weren't very creative like you guys and it would have been cool to have their expresions on tape, but I don't know how we would have recorded that without drawing strange looks (-:

Anyway, you guys are going to be amazing parents and you are in for the time of your lives! I am so excited for you. I'm also really glad you started this blog, you have to post frequently for those of us far away who don't mess with facebook (maybe I'm the only one?).

  5. Hi. I'm Kevin's friend, Dina, from college. I was just reading your blog and noticed that we have a mutual friend...Nichole Schrock! Weird, small world. Okay, so besides that I wanted to say congrats on the pregnancy. Kevin was pumped when I saw him. And I can't wait to meet you some day. I have heard a lot about you and know that you have brought so much joy to Kevin. Thanks for that.
